  1. Should We Willingly Give Our Teens Birth Control

My philosophy is to teach abstinence not birth control to teenagers. During my teenage years my parents and especially my father told me; “there will be abstinence that means keep your damn legs close.” This was said to me by my father putting his finger on my nose in the terms of getting me to understand he will not tolerate me being sexually active as a minor. My mother took the approach “your body is your temple and you don’t let every Tom, Dick, Peter or Paul in; save it for the man that is worthy for repeat performances and that is marriage.”

Abstinence is the only surefire method of protecting from becoming pregnant. By means of not having sex, he/she plainly won’t get pregnant; guaranteed. Sex is a good thing; it isn’t something that should be offered to anybody who wants it. Sex is something that is frequently considered an act of bonding between two people. The practice of waiting until marriage for sex is the safest way to protect against the pain of having an unasked for child, a sexually transmitted disease and a reputation that makes a teens life difficult to bear. Mothers/fathers need to sit down with their teenagers and discuss the risks of sexual behavior at an immature age.

Parents need to discuss how girls become pregnant but also how they may have emotional scars/baggage from having sex with partners in unstable relationships. In reality sex isn’t something that anybody should feel pressured into doing. It is something that should be saved until the moment is right. Sex is very rarely right in a teenage relationship where there is characteristically no foundation for being able to handle an unexpected child. Regardless of whether young people believes that waiting for marriage or being in a special relationship is needed to have sex, parents should sit down and talk about what their beliefs are on this issue. Teens should always understand that abstinence ensures they won’t regret their actions later.
